One Week

One week and not a single comment about the crazy looking duck on my website. Oh well, don’t worry Mr Ray someone loves you somewhere. I am going to start to ask for refunds again.. Tut Tut.

Its late on Tuesday night. I am not tired and am playing with quite a cool toy called Keyhole. Its a satellite imaging program that allows you to zoom in on places. It pretty much only works really well on the US and London, so I am quite fortunate. I can already see Grant “Conspiracy, USA is trying to kill us” Slater looking at nice places to go visit in the states. :) Its really cool and I have found my flat in London with it. Its pretty neat.

2 weeks until holidays. “What am I going to do without the wit and personality of Ray’s blog entries?” you cry. No worry mortals I will still be posting from the comfort of South Africa so do not worry your silly little heads off.

Link of the Day? Hmmm. This link has a PG18 rating on it… So no children or people with chemical dependencies for this one. Clicky

Link of the day without a doubt. Even if you aren’t a programmer you will see how horrendous this code is. And its in a real system. Crazy.

Sitting at Starbucks in Canary Wharf at 6:30am drinking coffee is quite a nice experience. I am sitting here using the internet wirelessly and wondering how the hell did I get here and what is that ringing in my ears.

Oh well. Good morning London!

Stupid People

General 3 Comments »

AAAARGH! I have had enough of stupid people today. Why can’t anybody just follow directions that are given to them..

“Step 1 do A. Step 2 do B. Woops I did C instead of A. Now it doesn’t work. What did I do wrong?”

I don’t care anymore. Read the instructions. They are in an email. Save the email for future use so that I don’t end up repeating myself (AKA finding the email and forwarding it to you).

Simple instructions are not difficult. You must have passed something at school to be here. Stop being an oxygen thief and think before you click that mouse, close that error message or say “Yes I want to delete all files without the chance of recovery and run a large magnet over all the backup tapes.”

Please?

Hey Hey!

I am finally getting a refund from Transport For London. They are the stupid company that run the ticketing system in London. My Oyster card was stolen (AKA lost) on a train. I immediately phoned them up to cancel it. Fine they said. Its been cancelled. I asked for a new one to be sent out. “Two weeks” was the response “and please keep your receipts for the tickets that you use till then and a refund will be issued.” Perfect says me!

Two weeks later and no ticket has arrived. I phone again and am told that my details cannot be found. A phone call is promised once the details have been found. A week passes and no phone calls. I phone back and argue with them and asking them what is the point of registering my Oyster card if they don’t store the details. I give up on phone calls and start with letters and faxes. No help there either. So I start sending emails. Finally I get a response via email. They say that they can’t find my details but are still going to give me a refund. How nice is that? And today I am told that I am getting a £60 cheque issued and its already been sent. Hooray!

What is ironic is I am going to use that money to buy another travel card :P

The First of Many

Hey all. I have decided (because of annoying better-halves) to make a personal blog. My other blog at RJB.ZA.NET is just becoming computer-orientated so it has been written that I should create a new blog just for personal things that are happening in my life.

So enjoy!

Developers - STOP IT!

General 1 Comment »

Developers need to stop doing one thing that will make my life a lot better. Its a simple thing and not something out of this world. I don’t understand why they do it but it gets done anyway.

Before I tell you what I want them to stop doing let me tell you my situation. I download a lot of software and store all the install files in one folder, namely c:temp. I only delete these install files about once a month when my harddrive starts running out of space. This now sets the environment for my problem.

Now all you developers out there, gather close around…. Yes closer, no no, closer still and listen to the pearl of wisdom I am about to give to you…..STOP CALLING YOUR INSTALL FILES “SETUP.EXE”

The End. My brain refuses to do anything anymore.
