Off on Holiday

I am off to Egypt for a week. Spending some time in Luxor at the Luxor Meridien and hopefully getting up to Cairo to see the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx.

Can’t wait! 7 (or is it 8 :P ) days of sun, sand and old things :P

Postag

Quite often we receive mail that is addressed to tenants who previously lived in our house. A lot of it is junk and the previous tenants have left on a round-the-world-tour so we have nor forwarding address.

Because I am a snoopy bastard I opened one of the letters because it looked interesting and had a certain weight to it. It was addressed to a previous tenant and was sent from Malta.

What was inside was definitely not a normal letter. As you can see from the pictures it seems to be some sort of a transponder manufactured for IBM by a company called Lyngsoe Industries called Postag. I can’t seem to find any information on Postag anywhere on the Internet. The letter also came with a piece of paper asking the recepient to mark when they received it and send the letter back. So being the responsible person I am, I took two photos and left it on my mantle piece.

Tin-foil hats anyone? :)

Kick Start your Day

I was standing in line (like the sheep I am) in Starbucks for my traditional latte and muffin (there is no way for a man to say this without sounding gay, I promise you) when the lady behind me orders, wait for it, a Venti Latte with an extra triple shot of espresso.

If that can’t get you going in the morning, nothing will.

By the way, a Venti latte is about 500ml of coffee.

New Domain Name Required

I have just moved my website and email to a new server in the USA. At the same time I decided to consolidate all my domains that I own and sort out the DNS as well as the nameservers that they run off. This turned out a little trickier than I planned as the people that manage .za.net take a while to update the whois records which makes nameserver changes a pain.

So down the the crux of the matter. I want a nice domain name, preferably a .com that I can use for my website and email. I currently own raybooysen.com but that only holds records for my nameservers and nothing else. The username I use on most websites and my gamertag on XBox Live is “Twyford”. Unfortunately this domain is long gone so I need some ideas. :(

Please! I am getting desperate. My DNS records cry out at me: “Ray, give us a catchy name, Please!” So for the sake of my DNS records, any ideas?

Sourceforge.net Project

I had my Sourceforge project registered on Friday! I have been wanting to write an OPML Outliner for a while and decided to get the ball rolling by registering a project with Sourceforge. After one rejection because of a horrible description of my project, I received my admission email on Friday.

So what do I get? Free hosting for a project management page, 100MB of webspace for a project website, one MySQL database, SSH access to a shell server, SSH access to their compile farm, mailing lists, bug tracker, forums and CVS. What more could you ask for? Pretty good for paying nothing every month. :)

So, please navigate over to my project page to see the progress on my new project. It would be great to have some visitors. The project is currently in a planning phase as I get my class definitions down and some structure into the application.

Google Knows the Answer!
