I think this is big news for the podcasting community. The first podcast from space! Steve Robinson, one of the astronauts compiled this podcast which is available today from NASA. Pretty impressive! :)

A Little Writing

Life in London 1 Comment »

I enjoy writing. Its a little hobby of mine that never seems to get off the ground other than this little blog.

So I was quite suprised when 2 writing opportunities jumped into my lap. The first writing opportunity is with a friend of mine, Nick Swan, who decided to get started on blogging for the London 2012 Olympics. Today is our little launch date so come on over to read some interesting posts and hopefully good discussions.

My second opportunity is with Non-Tech-City. Matthew, the man behind the scenes is going away for 2 weeks so I am taking over. I am really excited about this and can’t wait to start writing.

Its quite amazing how this kind of thing happens. My only real goal is to improve my writing skills and do it more often. So come on over to these sites and take a read!

Batman Spanks

Who would have guessed? A man in a rubber suit into S&M? Possibly the funniest ever batman comic ever.

Shabby Editors

So it works like this right? A journalist writes a story and submits it to his editor or one of the editor’s underlings (mmmm underlings) for review and editing. Any edits required are submitted to the journalist for review and change. Until the article is of a good enough quality (unless you are married to the editor’s blonde beautful daughter. Trust me this is always true.)

This is the system that makes sure articles are of a good quality. It has worked for years and works to this day; except for this article that I came across on News24, South Africa’s “premier” online news source.

Have a read and you will see what I mean. Published on the 4th of August, ages after Google Earth was released, it is so poorly researched it is utter madness. A complete lack of continuity and just plain “BAD” writing makes this article read like a bad blogger (If I even get ONE comment regarding my blog and bad writing).

I place the blame of this article firmly on the shoulders of the editor of News24. How on earth (hehe) do you allow this article to leave your desk with the “ACCEPTED” stamp on it*. Boggles my mind it does, boggles.

You might ask why this rant appeared today. I have no idea. I could blame it on lack of sugar, the fact that a wolf ran across my path yesterday or my DNA is untwisting, but the point remains - Bad writing, bad editors = Bad site.

Just as News24 releases RSS too…. And I unsubscribe. Oh well.

Horrendous Article Link

* By the way, ACCEPTED stamps are always red. I don’t know why, they always are. Even in space.
