Carson Summit: Lunch

IT Chapters, Today.... No Comments »

Currently having lunch at the “Future of Web Apps” conference. Its been a really interesting morning with talks by Flickr, Delicious and Tom Coates. I am a big fan of Tom having met him at a Geek Dinner early last year. I’ll hopefully post some notes on each of the talks this evening once I get back. If the morning talks are anything to go by, this afternoon will be great!

Just sat down, great seat and the conference is about to start.  I’ll be posting some thoughts and links during the day.

1 Billion Served

Apple, Link of the Day No Comments »

The countdown has started. What a grand prize:

“… if you’re the lucky grand-prize winner who downloads the billionth song from the iTunes Music Store, you’ll receive a 20-inch iMac, 10 60GB iPods, and a $10,000 iTunes Music Card to jumpstart your digital music collection. In addition, Apple will create a full-ride scholarship in your name to a world-renowned music school.”

VMWare GSX Now Free

IT Chapters 2 Comments »

This impresses me. I have always wanted to play with one of VMWare’s server offerings and never had enough reason to authorize a purchase for the office. Now VMWare has released their GSX server free for everyone to use. The name has now been re-branded to VMWare Server but it is essentially the GSX version with a new logo.

Their ESX version is still non-free but thats a monster of a package that most businesses won’t require and more suited to data centers. Looking forward to when I get some time to play with it.

Seems as if VMWare is feeling the pressure from Xen and their virtualization software.
