Moving on from the previous post around the problems I’ve had with Mozy and their encryption, I thought it would be fair on them to post my experiences further on down the road.

To recap, my files I had uploaded to Mozy refused to decrypt using the exact key I had specified when I uploaded them to their servers.  To my delight, the support provided by Mozy was exemplary.  Chuck in particular walked me through every avenue possible to retrieve my files and was extremely helpful.

Unfortunately, I was coming up to the end of the month when they would charge me again and already having decided to move away from Mozy, I closed the account before the next month’s fee came off my card.

So moving on, Amazon announced a fee reduction in their S3 service.  Fantastic news as this means the monthly price for around 30GB worth of my data is approximately $4 which is impressive.  There have been blog posts regarding the speed outside of the US but I don’t see this being a problem as it is more of a store than a file provider.

Once the 1st of June arrives (price drop occurs then) I’ll be uploading my data and see how it works out.
