TFS 2005 to 2008

IT Chapters 2 Comments »

Has anyone ever migrated content ( source control, users, work items ) from an existing TFS 2005 installation to a new 2008 installation?  My 2005 box is built on old 2005 beta code that was then upgraded to 2005 RTM and survived a crash.  I’m not too confident that it will survive a 2008 upgrade so I’m looking for a mechanism to migrate the content across.

Any ideas?

Tomorrow’s Speaking Engagement

IT Chapters, Vista Squad No Comments »

I’m speaking at tomorrow’s Vista Squad meeting in London at the Microsoft offices in Victoria.  I’ll be giving a talk on Vista Tips and Tricks.  Even though Vista has been out for quite a while, there are a lot of settings and options that some users might not know about and I hope to cover these tomorrow.

Hopefully the audience won’t know all of them as the user group does seem to have quite a large number of power-users.

If you’re in the area tomorrow night, head on over, you’re more than welcome.  More details here.

Was checking my calendar, working out when I go on holiday and noticed this:

This isn’t the actual prompt, this is displayed when changing the date and time, but the clock does show something similar.  Since the clock won’t stay open if I click away, I had issues getting a screenshot of it.

Pretty neat though. I never remember when daylight savings starts and finishes.

Developer Day Scotland

Developer Day Scotland has hit the voting phase for talks.  Head on over to their site to cast your vote for the talks you would most like to see.

Developer Day Scotland (DDS) is a community event, run by community for community, which is based upon the highly successful Developer! Developer! Developer! (DDD) community conference events.

DDD itself is a highly successful community event held at Microsoft’s TVP Campus in Reading! There have been six DDDs so far, the first one back on the 15th May 2005, the most recent on the 24th November 2007. The Reading event attracts some 300+ developer-focused delegates. The success of DDD is best expressed through the registration rate: DDD6 was fully booked within 24 hours of registration opening.

Scottish Developers is pleased to bring this phenomenal success to Scotland. The very best of the UK speaker community will be presenting on the topics delegates wish to see. We’re working with interested third parties to supply all manner of additional CPD resources for those delegates interested in professional and career development.
